Mseilha Walkway: feasibility study for a heritage trail
With a grant from Hungary Helps, the foundation is studying a 37-kilometre walking route from the coast at Batroun, past Mseilha Fort and the Nahr el-Jawz valley, up to Tannourine.
Where the study stands
The foundation's experts have walked and assessed the route and the heritage sites along it. The condition of the sections varies, and some will need proper restoration.
The original design included landscaping around the Mseilha dam. The dam is not functioning as planned, the ownership of the neighbouring land is unsettled, and the Directorate General of Antiquities does not support the proposed landscape plan. The designers have therefore proposed withdrawing the dam elements and adding a second hiking trail in the Wadi Harba area with a cycle route linking the two.
The budget and purpose of the study are unchanged; more time was requested to receive and assess the revised plans.
