Child protection and safeguarding skills for Catholic educators

In 2022, with missio München, thirty Catholic educators from across Lebanon were trained in child protection and safeguarding, and began passing the training on in their parishes.

What was done

The programme built the capacity of educators working in Catholic institutions to recognise, prevent and refer cases of child abuse.

Participants then ran their own awareness sessions in parishes. The semi-annual report of October 2022 records ten of the fifteen planned sessions as completed, the drafting of a child-protection policy as partly achieved, and its presentation to the church authorities as still to come.

The foundation's own policy

The foundation applies a zero-tolerance child protection policy to all its activities. Every recruited staff member follows a three-day training on child protection and safeguarding, and any activity involving children begins with an awareness session on children's rights.
